Frequently Asked Questions About Penis Enlargement
The questions men ask us most before they book, answered the way the doctor would answer them at the consultation. If yours is not here, the free information session with a patient coordinator is the place to ask it.
The Procedure
What are penis enlargement injections?
Penis enlargement injections are done using hyaluronic acid penis filler, placed along the shaft through a blunt cannula to make the penis thicker. They are non-surgical, done in one office visit under a local anesthetic, and the result lasts about two years on average. How the procedure works →
What filler is used?
Doctors affiliated with Upsize™ use hyaluronic acid fillers. The specific filler varies by doctor and can be discussed at your appointment. Common hyaluronic acid fillers on the market include Versa and Voluma. They are FDA-approved for cosmetic use in the face; using them in the penis is off-label, which means the FDA has not reviewed that use.
Does it hurt?
Typically the area is numbed with a local anesthetic block before anything else happens, so most men feel pressure rather than pain, and you are awake the whole time. It is usually tender afterwards and may bruise for a few days to a week. It is rare for patients receiving penis enlargement injections to require pain medication or for the pain to limit their activities.
How long does it take, and is it one visit?
The visit typically takes under an hour. In most cases the filler can go in in one sitting, although this is evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the doctor at your appointment. Many men have it done the same day as their in-person consultation.
Who will I see?
Your first step is a free telephone information session with an Upsize™ patient coordinator, who goes through your goals and books you in. At the clinic, you consult with your provider, who examines you and determines the appropriate amount of filler given your goals, your anatomy and other factors before anything is injected. Each clinic's page names who you will see there. The doctors →
Can I have it if I'm uncircumcised?
Yes. The doctor adjusts the technique to your anatomy, circumcised or not.
Results
How much bigger will I get?
Up to 0.5 inch of girth from 6 ml, up to 1 inch from 10 ml, up to 1.5 inches from 15 ml and up to 2 inches from 20 ml. The same volume adds less to a larger penis, because it spreads over more surface. Typical results — yours depend on your starting size and the volume you choose, and your doctor tells you what to expect for you at your consultation. How much filler you are likely to need →
Will it look bigger when I'm erect?
Yes. The filler thickens the shaft itself, so the girth is present both soft and erect. Erect length does not change; however, you may gain up to 0.75 inch in flaccid length due to decreased retraction.
How long does it last?
About two years on average. The body absorbs hyaluronic acid slowly and at its own pace, so it varies from man to man. If you ever want it gone sooner, it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Full list of risks and complications →
When will I see the result?
Usually straight away, although swelling makes it look bigger for the first few days. It typically settles over two to three weeks, and it looks a little smaller as the swelling goes down. For the first three to five days the filler can still be shaped, so anything uneven can be smoothed out.
Will it look natural, and will a partner notice?
Once the swelling has settled, the filler feels like your own tissue. Men and their partners generally tell us the result looks and feels natural.
Can I see before and after photos?
Yes. The before and after page shows real patients of doctors affiliated with Upsize™, with the volume each one had. Before and after photos →
Candidacy & Safety
Is it safe?
Most men have swelling, bruising and tenderness for a few days to a week. Less often the filler settles unevenly or forms a small firm lump, which can be smoothed out or dissolved. Serious complications are rare. Full list of risks and complications →
What should I watch for afterwards?
Swelling, bruising and tenderness are normal and fade day by day. Pain that gets worse instead of better, skin that turns white or dusky, numbness, spreading redness or a fever are not: call your clinic straight away, and go to an emergency room if you cannot reach them. Trouble breathing or chest pain means calling 911 straight away. Full list of risks and complications →
Can anyone have it?
Most healthy men over 18 can have it, at any age. Your provider decides whether it is right for you at your in-person consultation.
Cost & Financing
How much does it cost?
$4,200 for 6 ml, $6,600 for 10 ml, $9,900 for 15 ml and $13,200 for 20 ml. The price typically covers the consultation, the procedure, the filler, the numbing, your antibiotics and a follow-up visit if you need one. Pricing in full →
What does more filler cost later?
$660 per ml, whichever package you started with. Many men start with a smaller package, live with the result, and add to it when they are ready. Prices may vary by clinic.
Is the price the same at every clinic?
Each clinic sets its own price. The prices on this site are the recommended prices, and your clinic confirms its price before you book. Canadian clinics charge in Canadian dollars, plus applicable taxes.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Each clinic offers financing through its own lenders, most often CareCredit, Cherry or United Credit. 0% APR for 6 or 12 months at participating offices is available to qualified applicants, and $4,200 at 17.00% APR over 36 months is $150 a month, $5,391 in total. Approval and terms are the lender's. Financing and disclosures →
How do I pay?
By credit or debit card, cash, or financing, on the day of the procedure.
Does insurance cover it?
No. It is an elective cosmetic procedure, so it is paid for privately or through financing.
Recovery & Aftercare
When can I go back to work and have sex?
You can go back to work the same day. Wait one week before sex, which gives the filler time to settle where it was placed. This is typical; your provider evaluates what is right for you, case by case, at your appointment.
What aftercare is there?
Very little, typically: a short course of antibiotics, so tell the doctor about any drug allergies, and your doctor gives you your own instructions. Most men need no sleeves, wraps or pumps. For the first three to five days the doctor may show you how to smooth the filler if it needs it, and a follow-up visit is available at no extra charge if you want or need one.
Firm-X Treatment
Does penis botox work?
Yes. In a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of 70 men whose ED pills were not working, one injection improved erections for 65 percent of them, and 53 percent could have an erection firm enough for penetration. A second randomized trial, of 176 men, found the effect lasted up to six months. The research →
How much does Firm-X™ cost?
$1,890 per treatment, and most clinics offer monthly payments. Prices may vary by clinic.
How soon does Firm-X™ work, and how long does it last?
Most men notice a difference within two weeks, and it lasts up to six months. When it wears off, many men decide to have it again.
Can I have Firm-X™ with filler?
Yes. Many men have both at the same visit. Filler adds girth; Firm-X™ is a separate injection for firmer erections. Your provider decides whether combining them is right for you at your consultation.
Does the Firm-X™ injection hurt?
Most men describe it as a quick pinprick. The injection itself typically takes a couple of minutes, the visit about 20 minutes, and some soreness or bruising afterwards is normal.
How is Firm-X™ different from ED pills?
A pill works for a few hours and has to be taken each time. Firm-X™ is one injection that works for months, so there is nothing to time.
Who can have Firm-X™?
Men with erectile dysfunction, in particular men who do not want to take ED medication or Trimix, or who want to use Firm-X™ alongside them. Ask your provider whether it is right for you. It is not for men with a nerve or muscle disorder such as myasthenia gravis, an infection where it would be injected, or an allergy to botulinum toxin.
Is Firm-X™ safe?
Firm-X™ is an injection of botulinum toxin into the penis, given off-label for erectile dysfunction by licensed providers at independent clinics. The side effects you're most likely to notice are mild bruising and soreness at the injection site. Less common effects include bleeding into the penis, scarring of the erectile tissue, and temporarily softer erections. An erection lasting more than four hours is a medical emergency that needs treatment in an emergency department. Botulinum toxin carries an FDA boxed warning that its effect can spread beyond the injection site. Anyone who develops trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing after treatment should get emergency care at once. The FDA warning in full →
